Frenchtown Food Pantry


As a scout it is our duty to serve our community as best as we can. The scout slogan states to "Do a Good Turn Daily" which means helping others that are less fortunate. 


During the winter months Troop 112 will be collecting non-perishable food items every meeting during the winter months to donate to our local food pantry.

Completing the Eagle Application


Great care should be taken in filing out the Eagle Application. This is just as important as a college application and/or a job application. If the Scout is not using the Application supplied by Council, make sure the application is printed in two-side mode. Scouts are encouraged to complete a rough draft in pencil for review by their troop leader before doing a final copy. If the Scout has poor penmanship, he may wish to have another person transcribe the final copy. The final application may not be in pencil and may not contain scratch-outs or write overs. Applications containing errors will be returned.

When filing out the required dates like joining date, boards of review, and when merit badges were earned, you have three sources: Scout’s records, Troop records, and the on-line advancement records. Contact the Council office if you do not have access to this site and arrange to get the needed information. Do not ask Council staff to verify advancement records over the phone as it’s very time consuming and prone to error. The Scout’s merit badge and rank advancement cards should be the most accurate. If you find errors, please correct the source document(s). The non-required merit badges listed must be the same as those used to earn Star and Life.

Eagle Procedure Outline

Each Troop should designate a person familiar with the Trail to Eagle process as the Eagle Scout Coordinator. This individual will work with the Scout with the project and associated paperwork from start to finish.

  • The Scout must follow the approval process set down by BSA and Troop committee for Eagle Projects.

    • The NESA website contains the workbook or you can use the printed version from Council. The on-line version allows the Troop to make corrections before submission to District. The on-line version must contain the front and back covers, with instructions, and the 12 Steps from Life to Eagle, stapled together, or put in a protective cover.

    • Three ring binders may not be used.

    • All signatures must be original.

  • All areas of the workbook must be completed. All write-ups should be a brief as possible without sacrificing necessary facts.

    • Scout’s, Unit leader’s and Advancement Chairman’s names

    • Project description

    • What group will benefit

    • The benefit to the group

    • Discussion dates with unit leader, and the representative of the group. Include phone number of benefiting group representative

    • Project Details (must include: present condition, method, materials, helpers, time schedule, estimated cost & how funds are going to be raised, and safety issues).

    • Selective photographs before the project starts, if appropriate

  • The Scout must acquire approval signatures in the following order before seeking District approval:

    • Benefiting group’s representative

    • Scoutmaster

    • Unit Committee chairman

  • All items above must be in ink or typewritten and secured in the workbook. Any items that cannot be secured in book will be labeled with the appropriate heading to which it belongs.

  • The Scout should contact the Playwicki District Advancement Chairman to schedule the Eagle Project review at the next Roundtable

  • Should the Scout not receive approval during the District review, he will be given a copy of the deficiencies and will be asked to return to the next Roundtable

  • The Scout may start project only after approval by District Advancement Committee

  • After the project is complete, necessary sections in workbook must be completed:

    • Hours the Scout spent planning and working on project, names, dates, and hours others spent working on project, total number or hours worked on project and grand total of hours spent

    • Materials used on project and costs

    • Any changes to original project

    • Selective photographs of completed project. Interim photos also welcomed

    • Start/Completion dates of project

    • Scout’s, Scoutmaster’s and benefiting group representative’s signatures

  • The Scout should secure a letter from group stating the project was completed to the group’s satisfaction

  • The Troop’s Eagle Scout Coordinator should work with Scout to complete the Eagle application, Character Profiles, and Requirement #6 (Ambitions, life purpose, and leadership skills, honors and awards)

  • The Eagle application may be typed or hand-written. The application, if not procured through the Scout office, must be printed back-to-back to ensure not getting misplaced

  • Character Profiles are to be given to:

    • Scoutmaster (cannot be used as an “other”)

    • Parents

    • School

    • Religious Leader

    • Employer, if any (if none, leave blank)

    • Two (2) other people, whom the Scout “knows personally and can provide a recommendation

  • Copies of rank and merit badge cards should be included in packet

  • The Eagle packet should be forwarded to the Council office for Merit Badge verification

  • After the verification process, the packet will be forwarded to the Playwicki Advancement Chairman for distribution to a committee member for Eagle Board of Review scheduling

  • The composition of the board will follow BSA guidelines

  • The Scoutmaster or an Assistant should introduce the Eagle Candidate to board

  • The candidate must appear in full uniform with his Scout handbook. Remember, as a future Eagle Scout, he is portraying the highest rank in Scouting.

  • When the candidate successfully completes the board, he will be given a signed copy of the Eagle application.

  • A Candidate not passing the board will be advised of the BSA policy for appeals.

  • The packet, including the signed Eagle Application, will be returned to Council office by the Troop via the quickest way of their choice.


The Eagle Candidate and Troop personnel should not make any formal arrangements to honor an Eagle Scout Applicant before successful completion of the Eagle Board of Review as the packet is again reviewed, signed by the Council Executive, and forwarded to National for review.

Eagle Character Profiles & Application

References Clarification:
The Eagle Scout application has six (6) lines to record the individuals. They are:

  • Parents/Guardians

  • Religious Leader

  • (Note: Believing in God is part of Scouting; however if a Scout does not participate in an organized religion and feels uncomfortable in obtaining a profile from a religious leader, a compelling statement attesting to his belief in God is mandatory).

  • Employer (if any)

  • Educational

  • Two (2) Other references


Looking at the actual Character Profile form, it has an additional requirement from the Scoutmaster. His or her recommendation is not recorded on the application, however it is mandatory. The Scoutmaster’s recommendation is extremely important and cannot be listed as an “other”. Remember, the Scoutmaster signs the back of the application, which attests to unit approval. The Scout should be able to obtain two individuals, who he “knows personally and can provide a recommendation” like neighbors, relatives or other group or Scout leaders.

Application Printing: The Eagle application is a two-sided form and must be printed two-sided. The back page does not have a spot for the Scout’s name and are impossible to pair with a front page if printed separately. Please make sure the application is printed on both sides or pick up a copy from the Council Service center.

Guidelines for Eagle Projects

The purpose of this document is to reiterate the guidelines for completing an Eagle project. Nothing new is being created and no new policies are being set forth. The stated “purpose, guidelines and instructions” as outlined in the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook are the guidelines to be followed.

Helpful Hints 

  • It is strongly suggested that each troop have an Eagle Coordinator to assist and direct the Scout along the way. This person should be someone who understands and is willing to oversee the process. Keep in mind that this may be the first time a boy has actually undertaken a management project of a significant magnitude.

  • Projects that are redundant within the same unit may be deemed inappropriate. Each project should be reviewed for leadership skills, and merit

  • “Just add the Scout” (labor) - projects will be scrutinized to see how the Scout is showing leadership, planning and adding value to the project.

  • The project description and all other documentation should be written in a clear, concise manner. Quality paperwork versus quantity of paper is recommended.

  • “Before photos” are extremely helpful for the person reviewing the project to understand the intent and concept of the proposed project.

  • When the troop committee approves a project, they must be mindful of all the safety guidelines concerning power tools, height restrictions, etc. as well as the possible need for a hold harmless clause for the project.

  • It is incumbent upon the troop committee to assure:

  • The project is worthy as an Eagle project

  • All paperwork is in order before sending the Scout to the District Advancement Committee for approval.

  • It is requested that the Scout call the District Advancement Chairman ahead of time when seeking project approval. This will allow the committee to make sure adequate help is available for project reviews at the Playwicki Roundtable.

  • Project workbook must have all required signatures before starting project. 

  • For Eagle Boards of Review a minimum of three adults are needed - preferably two from the troop (non-uniformed leaders) plus a district representative. To have a successful advancement program your troop must have a sufficient pool of trained reviewers. Train your replacement before they are needed.


Eagle Project Reviews

Scouts wishing to have their project approved by District will call the Advancement Chairman at 215-378-3708 for ‘appointment’.
Approvals will be conducted from 7-8 pm at the Playwicki Roundtable.
Scouts must have all required signatures from their Troop in the workbook.

Guidelines for Eagle Packet

  • Ensure that there is a maximum of six (6) Character Profiles. The ‘employer’ is optional if the Scout does not have a job. The Religious Leader may under certain circumstances, be excluded, but a compelling Statement of Belief in God in mandatory. THE SCOUTMASTER MAY NOT BE USED AS AN “OTHER”, OR LISTED IS HE OR SHEON THE FRONT OF THE APPLICATION, although it is REQUIRED with the packet.

  • Both before and after photos of the project are required.

  • Packets missing pieces will be returned without being otherwise reviewed.

  • Check for all required signatures before submitting. Packets missing even a single signature will be returned and require resubmission.
